Eligibility — Frequently Asked Questions
What sectors of the Hospitality Industry are ineligible, and why?
HCRF considers certain segments ineligible when the service is primarily transactional and lacks a hospitable component (e.g., fast-service food & beverage establishments, motels, and convention centers, to name a few).
Do I need to be working in hospitality?
You currently work in, or have recently worked (within the past 6 months) in, the Hospitality Industry, within the sectors HCRF considers eligible.
What recent hours qualify?
You’ve worked sufficient recent hours (e.g., ~30+ hours/week) within the relevant look‑back period (6 months).
What caregiving situations are eligible?
Your family member is experiencing an illness (short-term, long-term, e.g., Dementia) or a disability, requiring you to be their full-time or part-time caregiver, affecting your employment status in the hospitality industry.
What if my family member can’t afford a caregiver or access programs?
Your family member cannot afford to pay for a full-time or part-time caregiver, and does not have access to or does not qualify for social programs (e.g., Paid Family Caregiver), and is ineligible for financial help from nonprofits. You step in as an unpaid family caregiver and need financial assistance to keep your caregiving efforts sustainable.
Can I apply if I received relief funds already?
Yes, provided that neither you nor the family member you are caring for has received “relief funds” within the past 12 months.
